Spotlight of the Caribbean
The Caribbean is an enormous region that is established from a large number of small islands. However, it would be a big mistake when voyaging to the Caribbean without visiting a place called “dream destination” of every tourist in the world – Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico, which is located in the between of northeastern Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean, is the third largest island in the United States with the total area of 3,515 square miles. The island of Puerto Rico is a neighbor with Dominican Republic to the west, and the bordering country that far from the east is Virgin Islands. San Juan is the largest city which is also the capital of the island ("Geography").
In addition, since being surrounded by 272 miles of coastline, Puerto Rico carries the climate of
tropical rainforest. With more than 300 beautiful beaches from all over the area, beach scenery is an indispensable feature which contributes to the popularity as well as the development of tourism in Puerto Rico.
From the year of 1917, this island became an unincorporated territory of the United States, which means the Puerto Rican is also the citizen of the States. Besides that, as a commonwealth, the Representative Democracy is the type of government that Puerto Rico have ("Government").
Different from the other states in the United States, the most common spoken language in Puerto Rico is Spanish which contains approximately 95 percent when English is just the second proficient language (Sawe). Therefore, it is not a surprise when a Puerto Rican is a bilingual. Although the right of freedom in religious is undeniable, the dominant religion that the citizens of this island put their faith on is Catholic.
Over the past few centuries with many changes in history, Puerto Rico can be considered as a perfectly mixture that combines traditional and modern genius of African, Indian and American.
