Puerto Rican women's position evolvement
The topic that I chose for the English Composition II’s Final Project is the changing process of women’s position in Puerto Rico society since the 20thcentury. After doing some researches, there were interesting facts which I summarized from different sources. It was noticeable that the workplace of Puerto Rican women was changing basing on a timeline from 1900 to 2018. During the first decades of the 20thcentury, women were mostly defined as household servants with tons of domestic jobs and were treated like female slaves subordinating to men. They also worked among field workers, planting and harvesting. In the middle in the century, being a possession of the United States, the island was partly impacted by Western culture, and the first thing that was easy to recognize was that the gender prejudice have been changed . Women were more visible in different industries than men. Moreover, they also became major labor force in the needlework and garment industry at the time. However, the issue of sexual segregation were still happened. Furthermore, 21st century can be considered as the women's era when their contribution in every aspect in society is definitely not inferior to men. Most of Puerto Rican women are playing important roles in government, education system as well as healthcare. On the other hand, although their position have been in a positive progress throughout history, conflicts in gender relations in are still one of remain challenges in Puerto Rico.
